Job Description
The Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies needs a CNA license for this full-time, on-site essential services designation position. Must be able to work a variety of shifts, including graveyard (night) shifts, day shifts, evening shifts, weekend shifts, and holidays as needed.
The purpose of this position is to provide direct, hands-on nursing care to facility residents, including assistance with daily living activities, documentation of care, awareness of residents' psychosocial and physical needs, and safety. All work must be done in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements as well as the standards of the profession.
Typical Job Duties Involve:
Provider Care
- Giving hands-on help or other direct resident care as needed throughout daily activities. Provide for environmental needs by organizing and modifying food, clothes, and/or other personal care products, as well as any physical environment requirements (wheelchair, walker, etc.). As required, gently assist and train individuals in self-care activities.
- Helps new CNAs get acquainted with the facility, residents, regulations, and routines while serving as their preceptor. The CCA II serves as a resource to the CCA I for advice and recommendations about the treatment of residents who are resistant.
- Ascertain any adjustments in the sort of regular care that the resident needs as a result of a change in the resident's condition or observation of their health state.
Care for nutrition and hydration
- When it is necessary for a particular resident, the caregiver assists with eating and drinking by chopping up food and feeding the patient, thickening drinks, and reminding the patient of the right swallowing methods and tactics recommended by the therapist.
- Records on the hydration flow sheets the percentages of meals and liquids consumed by the occupants.
- Recommends keeping an eye out for any residents who might need to switch from their usual food to a pureed one or from ordinary liquid to a thickened one.
- To provide high-quality nursing care, plan your daily tasks so that the necessary attention is given despite unforeseen circumstances.
Health and Safety
- Keep an eye on residents' locations, interactions, and conditions, and if required, refer to the charge nurse.
Health Care
- Work together with the charge nurse and other nursing staff to provide information on resident care status, assess the efficacy and appropriateness of the treatment care plan, and alert the charge nurse to any refusals of hygiene care.
- Record your observations and the care you gave each resident in their records.
Mental health, transportation, and educational requirements
- By making direct, personal contact with residents and their significant others, attend to their psychological needs.
- It will be necessary for this job to use a State vehicle to carry lab specimens, and residents to doctor's appointments, or hospitals (if not carried by ambulance).
- As required by state law, VA rules, and facility policy and procedures, keep your knowledge up to date by attending necessary and optional in-services and seminars.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Substitutions:
- The Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies will accept a current, valid nursing aide license (CNA) in lieu of a high school diploma or GED.
- The Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies or any state that is a member of the Nurse Licensing Compact will accept current, valid licensing as a Practical Nurse (LPN) in place of the experience requirement.
Required Abilities
- Ability to start, carry out, and finish given tasks when providing care for residents.
- Have effective listening, speaking, and writing skills while interacting with residents, relatives, and members of interdisciplinary teams.
- Showed the capacity to conduct themselves professionally at all times when interacting with residents, families, other staff members, and the general public.
- The ability to always retain secrecy has been shown.
- Experience in nursing homes or long-term care is greatly desired.
- Ability to solve problems effectively
Preferred Abilities
- Knowing how to provide assigned residents with care that is suitable for their situations, being able to utilize judgment, and effectively identifying, reporting, and documenting pertinent resident information.
- Knowing and being able to convey to colleagues with less experience the allocated resident care best practices
- Having the knowledge and skills necessary to spot urgent or emergency resident care circumstances, ask the RN and/or Supervisor/DON for advice and instruction, and start the necessary emergency actions when told to.
- Understanding of quality guidelines, rules, and methods
- Understanding of specialized client care that is relevant to the workplace
- Ability to plan and administer high-quality care successfully while collaborating with personnel from various work units and a resident population with a range of physical, mental, and emotional capacities.
Employment Requirements:
- A flexible schedule, including day, evening, and graveyard (night) shifts, as well as weekends and holidays, must be allowed to be worked as a condition of employment.
- The ability to execute a variety of physical tasks, including but not restricted to lifting and transferring residents, is necessary for this role.
- Must have a driver's license issued in Colorado.
- Through the Department of Regulatory Agencies, a current, valid CNA license
- Must pass a TB test, which will be provided before hiring and will be paid for by the employer.
- The person in this job is required to report to work without delay or interruption in order to deliver vital or emergency services to safeguard the customers' health, safety, and welfare.
- Fingerprinting, TRAILS, CAPS, and full background checks
- Former State workers who were disciplined dismissed or resigned in lieu of termination must state this information on the application and give justification for why they should not be disqualified from the present post given their prior termination or resignation. Absent unusual circumstances, the candidate will be ineligible for future State employment with CDHS if they had previously been disciplined terminated, or resigned in lieu of termination.
