Rhodes Global Scholarship
Annual deadline: August 1, 2023
Study in the United Kingdom
The course begins in October 2023.
History Behind Rhodes Global Trust
The Rhodes Global Trust began after Cecil Rhodes passed away, the Rhodes Scholarships were created in his honor to remember him. Cecil Rhodes had the vision to make the world a better place by spreading leaders who were driven to help those around them, trained in the contemplative life of the mind, and whose perspectives had been broadened by contact with others and exposure to cultures other than their own. Mr. Rhodes anticipated that his proposal to enroll capable students at Oxford University from all throughout the English-speaking world and beyond would contribute to the advancement of peace and understanding on a global scale. Among the more than 100 Rhodes students from across the world who enroll in degree programs at Oxford University each year are 32 students from the United States. In 1904, the first American Rhodes Scholars arrived in Oxford.
The Rhodes Scholarship is the earliest worldwide financial aid program (first given in 1902) that allows outstanding young people from all around the world to study at the University of Oxford.
Since the Rhodes Scholarships were first established a century ago, the Trust has brought together a network of outstanding individuals who have a history of enhancing their communities and using the skills and knowledge they gained as Scholars for the benefit of society. Presidents, Nobel Laureates, and Olympians have all received Rhodes Scholarships. Like Chrystia Freeland, Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eric Lander, a pioneer in the study of the human genome, and Kumi Naidoo, Secretary General of Amnesty International, several are well-known champions for greater social justice.
The Rhodes Trust's dedication to becoming a genuinely global organization that represents the variety of the globe is demonstrated by opening up the Scholarship program to brilliant minds from all around the world.
Brief explanation:
Until recently, Rhodes Scholarships were only given in 20 constituencies (representing more than 60 nations). The Rhodes Scholarships are now entirely global: two new Global Scholarships are available to qualified students from the rest of the globe (subject to nomination). The Rhodes Global Scholarship Program seeks excellent young leaders who are eager to tackle global issues and promote worldwide understanding and peace.
