Opportunity International (Opportunity) received a corporative agreement from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to serve as the principal Implementing Partner (IP) for the USAID/Ghana Low-Cost Private Schools (LCPS) Activity, which also includes five other partners, including FHI 360. The Activity aims to enhance student learning outcomes and funding choices for LCPS during a five-year period (2023–2028) by providing schools, communities, financial organizations, professional networks, and the Government of Ghana (GoG) with the necessary tools. The Activity has 17 USAID Zone of Influence districts in northern Ghana that are the focus of 213 chosen LCPS. The three intermediate outcomes (IR) of the Activity are to raise investment in and business performance of LCPS, enhance the quality of education provided by LCPS, and expand the ability of the Ministry of Education (MoE) and professional networks to support LCPS

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The SBC Specialist will be a member of the project team at the upper mid-level and will collaborate with the government, regional and local partners, non-governmental organizations, community organizations, and others to support the design, implementation, and monitoring of SBC activities to facilitate capacity building, the development of educational curricula, and other project goals. Under the direction of the project head of the party, the SBC Specialist will offer specialist technical support for designing, implementing, overseeing, and coordinating SBC and demand-generating interventions.

RELATIONSHIPS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Offers technical support and assistance in relation to the creation and implementation of demand-generation, social and behavior change communication, and marketing strategies for bettering the development of primary school curricula in private schools. This support and assistance is given in all phases, from formative research through design, media and material production, community mobilization, and evaluation.
  • Supports the creation of relevant strategies and the design and execution of formative research in SBC.
  • Responds to the objectives and deliverables of contracts and grant agreements, making sure that they are met on time, in full support of the contract, and in conformity with the terms of the agreement.
  • Oversees the execution of formative research, SBC work plans, and other allocated tasks.
  •  Contribute to and create quarterly, yearly, and any other necessary reporting needs.
  • Supports the implementation of project activities and coordinates with and supervises partner organizations participating in-country program activities.
  • Other duties have been given to help the Chief of Party in completing the FHI 360 work plan activities.

Minimum Conditions

  • 5-7 years of experience working in Ghana and 5-7 years of experience studying, creating, executing, and managing demand generation, marketing, social, and behavior change initiatives and programs in developing nations.
  • A bachelor's degree in public health, health communications, marketing, communications, or a related discipline is necessary, or its equivalent. preferred: master's degree.

Certain knowledge requirements

  • Strong understanding of communication theories and tactics for promoting social and behavioral change, as well as how to use them in practice to enhance community participation and the adoption of essential behaviors in primary education and teaching. strong familiarity with Ghana's educational institutions, programs, and systems.
  • Knowledge of effective, evidence-based solutions to the communication problems that arise in emerging nations.
  • Experience working on SBC initiatives and programs in Ghana and/or other African nations that have produced measurable results at scale.
  • For successful demand generation and SBC interventions, knowledge of widely used formative research, pretesting, monitoring, and evaluation procedures is essential.
  • A wide range of technical staff members have an understanding of capacity-building methodologies and ways to develop and enhance SBC knowledge, ability, and skills.
  • Excellent programming, managerial, and technical skills.
  • A track record of being a productive team player.
  • Showed independence by establishing own goals and finishing given tasks.
  • Outstanding communication abilities in both English and one or more local languages.
  • Demonstrated capacity for cooperation with the commercial sector, the government, partners, donors, and NGOs. demonstrated interpersonal and negotiating abilities.
  • The capacity to multitask while setting priorities and meeting deadlines.
English and one or more local languages are required.
